Visit Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo from 9 to 12 August 2012 for the Klein Karoo Klassique - a festival of classical music and Klein Karoo cuisine, wines and art. Make a date with delicious Klein Karoo cuisine paired with regional wines and complimeted by the classical sounds of a string quartet, a piano duo (piano & cello) two piano recitals, a performance of Lieder, a wind instrument quintet, an organ recital and the performance of an a capella choir.
Klein Karoo potters, painters and other visual artists such as Thijs Nel and Francois Gerber will exhibit in various venues and there will also be practical painting workshops.
The highlight of the week end will be a performance by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra in the Civic Centre, with duets and arias by the well-known Pretty Yende and Given Nkosi. The Orchestra will also perform well-loved opera arias with soloists Friedel Mitas and Conroy Scott. The conductor is Brandon Phillips, winner of the first Len van Zyl Conductor's Competition. Friedel Mitas, who grew up in Oudtshoorn, completed her Performance Diploma in Opera at the University of Cape Town under Prof Virginia Davids and last year won the Olitalia/Rialto Bursary Competition. She has performed as soloist for numerous oratorio works and sung various leading roles. Conroy Scott has sung amongst others the lead baritone role in Puccini's La Rondine and the title role in Mozart's opera Don Giovanni.

Mezzo soprano Minette du Toit-Pearce, accompanied by Philippus Hugo on piano, launches this year's feast of vocal music with a recital including works by Vivaldi, Rossini, Schubert, Richard Strauss, Saint-Saëns, Obradors and Bizet, together with Pieter de Villiers' beloved Seven Boerneef Songs and lighter material by Christa Steyn and Leonard Cohen. Tickets include the performance, followed by a glass of wine and a delicious light meal.
