Oudtshoorn Oudtshoorn, the ostrich-feather capital of the world, is situated in the Klein Karoo about 55km from the coastal town of George and is sheltered by the Swartberg and Outeniqua Mountains.
Known as the capital of the Klein Karoo, the town can trace its beginnings to 1847. Ornate relics of the extravagance of the feather barons during the ostrich boom era can be seen at palaces such as Pinehurst and Welgeluk.
The Cango Caves, just 30km north of the town, are one of the world's great natural wonders, with their 100 million year old stalactites and stalagmites and breathtaking limestone formations in a wide variety of natural colours.
The annual Klein Karoo National Arts festival (KKNK) offers a host of stage productions with some of the best local and international talent every April.
